FAQ

Frequently asked questions:

Is a ceramic coating right for me?
Not necessarily.  Ceramic coatings are not abusable or a replacement for regular care.  Ceramic coatings do make it significantly easier to maintain the appearance of your automobile or boat.  And, ceramic coatings do protect from environmental fallout (bugs, bird droppings, acid rain, etc) from damaging your paint.

If you do not take regular care of your vehicle, a ceramic coating is not valuable to you.  However, we do offer Nasiol Metalcoat F2 if you still want nano protection that is very easy to use at an affordable price.  Proper decontamination, polishing, and prep work are all still required.

Why all the prep work?
The coating adheres to whatever is below.  If your paint is contaminated, the coating adheres to the contaminants rather than the paint.  Ceramic coatings do not hide surface defects.  Your vehicle paint or boat gel coat should be properly decontaminated, polished, and panel wiped to provide the best, most-level surface for a ceramic coating.

Watch our YouTube video demonstrating that even new cars need paint correction.

What is the difference between a nano and ceramic coating?
Nano just means microscopic in our case. All ceramic coatings are nano coatings.  However, not all nano coatings are ceramic coatings.  Ceramic coatings are SiO2 (silicon dioxide) glass coatings or SiC (silicon carbide) coatings applied to solid surfaces.

What about SiC coatings?
SiC coatings are more resistant to chemicals and withstand more abuse than SiO2 coatings.  However, Nasiol ceramic coatings have much deeper gloss and do not have the "rainbow effect" of some SiC coatings. Proper hand washing with a pH neutral soap will result in similar lifetimes.  Avoid automatic car washes, as the soap used is about the same pH as bleach.

What about Graphene coatings?
Graphene coatings are durable and super-slick!  However, while graphene coatings work fantastically in drier climates, they water spot more easily than ceramic coatings or bare paint.  Being located in the Midwest USA, we have removed and replaced a few graphene coatings with Nasiol ceramic coatings due to water spotting.

Is it difficult to apply a ceramic coating?
No.  After a proper paint correction and panel prep, it is actually not difficult to apply a ceramic coating. The important things to remember are properly prepping your paint-corrected panels with Nasiol Clean and to pay particular attention to flash times noted in the included instructions. It is the flash time that catches novice home detailers or first-time professional users by surprise.  If a coating is applied in extreme temperatures and/or in high humidity, then the flash time will be shorter.

For first-time users, it is important to read the included instructions as different coatings have different flash times.  It is important to read the directions for each product.  Only apply coatings indoors or in cool, indirect sunlight.  Use quality towels.  Using two towels is the minimum for any Nasiol paint coating except Metalcoat F2.  Work in areas less than 1m^2, and pay particular attention to the amount of time for the coating to begin beading. When beading begins, it is time to wipe and level the coating. Use one towel to evenly spread the coating, and the second towel to buff to a shine.  Refold your towels after each area is coated.  Keep backup towels nearby in case you drop any.

It is recommended to work in 2ftX2ft sections if you are applying a coating in an environment with a combination of high temperature and high humidity.

What do I do if I have a high spot area?
First, don't panic.  It sometimes happens to us, too.  If it has only been a very short time, then you can try applying a little more product in a like-dissolves-like test to see if you can level the high spot(s).  This eliminates high spots about 1/3 of the time.  It's always worth a try if it's only been a short time after flashing.

If you weren't able to level the high spot(s) with another coating layer, then you will need to use a machine polisher and compound to level the coating.  Nasiol CleanRub 305 compound with a Nasiol Yellow Fine Cut Foam Polishing Pad will level the high spot.  Polish until glossy; you may need to follow up with CleanRub 505.  Prep the area again with Nasiol Clean, and reapply the coating to the area.  If it's a really small spot, sometimes we dab 305 compound on a Nasiol Blue Microfiber Polishing Cloth and level it by hand.

OK.  I didn't read the directions, and my car has streaks all over the place.  Now, what do I do?
If you're at this point, you'll still be OK.  You will have to compound all the affected areas, wipe the panels with Clean again, and reapply the coating according to the included directions.  But, not all is lost.

Can you help me?  I've done everything above and I give up.
